7 Tips to Make Your Artificial Plants Look Completely Real
Share
The difference between an artificial plant that fools everyone and one that looks obviously fake often comes down to styling. Here are seven tips to make your artificial plants look completely real.
1. Choose the Right Pot
Cheap plastic pots make artificial plants look fake instantly. Invest in quality ceramic, terracotta, or woven basket pots. A beautiful pot makes any plant look more real and more premium.
2. Add Decorative Top Dressing
Cover the base with decorative pebbles, preserved moss, or a layer of real soil. This one step makes an enormous difference to the overall realism.
3. Position Near a Light Source
Even though light isn't required, placing your plant near a window makes it look more natural. Plants in completely dark corners with no plausible light source look less convincing.
4. Give Plants Space
Real plants need space around them. Giving your artificial plants the same visual breathing room makes them look more natural and intentional.
5. Mix Sizes and Textures
Group a large statement plant with smaller complementary plants. In nature, plants of different sizes grow together — recreating this creates a believable arrangement.
6. Allow Some Imperfection
Gently bend and shape leaves and stems to create natural-looking variation. Most plants arrive slightly compressed from packaging — five minutes reshaping them makes a huge difference.
7. Keep Them Clean
Dusty artificial plants look fake. Wipe leaves regularly with a damp cloth. Clean plants catch light better and look far more lifelike.
